My trusty headlamp died in the middle of the old mill basement

I was down in the lower level of the abandoned Carter Mill, about 30 feet from the stairs, when my main light just cut out. Total darkness. I had my phone light, but it felt so weak down there. I was trying to get a shot of this old, rusted gear assembly and I just froze for a second. I always thought having a backup light in my bag was overkill, but that changed right then. I fumbled my phone, dropped it, and had to feel around on the damp concrete to find it. I got the shot later with my phone, but the vibe was totally gone. I'm buying a second headlamp this week for sure. What do you guys use for a reliable backup light when you're deep in a place?

Just use your phone light.

Three out of five times my phone light dies halfway through whatever I'm doing. Not reliable enough for anything that actually needs steady light. Grab a cheap headlamp instead, way less hassle.
