I always thought old schools were creepy until I actually went in one

I used to roll my eyes at people posting pics of abandoned schools. Thought it was just the same broken desks and graffiti. But I stopped at one outside of Columbus, Ohio last month and walked around for 45 minutes. Seeing the old science lab with the glass cabinets still full of beakers and a 1952 calendar on the wall changed my mind completely. Anyone else find something that surprised you inside a place you thought would be boring?

That 1952 calendar is the kind of thing that gets you. I walked into a abandoned high school gym in rural Indiana once and found a dusty trophy case full of basketball trophies from 1967, all engraved with names that probably never got picked up. It's funny how a specific date or name makes a creepy place feel like someone's real life instead of just a spooky movie set.

Man, that's exactly the kind of thing that sticks with you. Did you ever try looking up any of those names? I've come across old yearbooks in abandoned buildings before and the weirdest part is how specific the dates get. Like, "March 14, 1967, Senior Night" feels like it happened yesterday when you're standing there in the dust. It makes you wonder what those kids would think if they saw their trophy case now, empty and forgotten. I bet somebody's grandparent out there still has a newspaper clipping from that game. It's wild how a few letters on a brass plate can make a place feel alive again for a second.
