Found an old hotel boiler room that still had steam up last month

Was poking around an abandoned hotel outside Cleveland. Place has been closed since 2003. The boiler room in the basement still had a low hiss coming from one of the pipes. Felt warm when I got near it. Anyone else run into gear that's still running in a dead building? How long do these things keep going unattended?

Dang, that's wild. I've been in a few places where the old electrical panels were still buzzing, but nothing with live steam. That's a whole different level of creepy. Makes you wonder how many years that boiler's been slowly chugging along with no one checking the pressure gauge. Glad you didn't get a face full of hot water walking in there. That kind of leftover energy in a dead building just feels wrong, like the place hasn't gotten the memo it's supposed to be empty. Stay safe in there, man.

Man, that hissing pipe brings back memories. I found a similar situation in an old warehouse outside Detroit where the main breaker was still live and humming like it just wanted to keep working forever.
