Dropped $150 on a high-end respirator for asbestos spots and it paid off
I wore a cheap paper mask into an old textile mill last spring and coughed black dust for a week straight. That respirator cost me a Saturday of work money but saved my lungs. Anybody else learn the hard way that proper gear is non-negotiable?

Same logic applies to cheap tools and bargain bin safety glasses that fog up the second you start sweating. People will drop cash on a trendy jacket but balk at spending twenty bucks on decent gloves for yard work. It is wild how quick folks are to cut corners on stuff that keeps them from getting hurt. Respirators, knee pads, a solid pair of boots all the stuff you hope you do not need is exactly the stuff you should never cheap out on.

Hold up, you coughed black dust for a whole week? That is genuinely terrifying and I am glad you are okay. @faith_lopez48 hit it right on the head with the gloves thing too, I once bought those cheap gardening gloves that fell apart after pulling three weeds. Honestly makes me wonder how many people are walking around with busted lungs from a thirty cent paper mask.
