Used a metal polish on my grandma's old chrome toaster

Picked up a 1955 Sunbeam toaster from an estate sale in Dayton last weekend, all crusty and tarnished. Tried some Nevr-Dull on a corner of the chrome and the result was so shiny it looked like new, but I noticed the chemical smell lingered for two days even after washing it. Learned you gotta buff it off really good and let it air out outside, not in the kitchen. Anybody found a safer polish for vintage chrome that won't stink up the house?

In my experience that chemical smell is part of what makes the polish work, and a little airing out is a small price to pay for that mirror finish. Your mileage may vary but I'd rather have a stinky toaster than one with a dull, hazy look from a weaker product.

Your mileage may vary but I'd rather have a stinky toaster than a dull one" - thats basically my life motto now, right up there with "I'll just have one more chip." I accidentally polished my grandma's old blender last month and my wife made me sleep on the couch for two nights because the chemical smell gave her a headache. So yeah I guess I pick the mirror finish and a little aromatherapy, even if it means I gotta explain to the neighbors why my toaster smells like a bad manicure.
