The 1955 ad that made me fix my front porch for $12

Found a Life magazine spread in my dad's garage showing a DIY concrete patch kit, and I tried it on the crack under my steps in Milwaukee last month. It held up through two storms so far, but has anyone else had luck with those old pre-mixed bags from hardware stores?
