The 1952 diner photo that changed how I season cast iron

I found this old black and white photo of my granddad's diner in Detroit from 1952. It shows him wiping down a cast iron griddle with just a rag and salt, no soap or fancy chainmail scrubbers. I started doing it that way about six months ago on my skillet at home. Honestly it works way better than all the stuff I was buying from the kitchen supply store. The seasoning stays put and nothing sticks anymore. Has anyone else tried the old school salt scrub method or is it just me?

Wait, are you saying I've been overcomplicating this whole time?

ellis.charles might be onto something here but I think the real trick is most people skip the part where you map out what you actually want to achieve before you start overcomplicating anything. Like with those meal prep plans where everyone's buying fancy containers and scheduling apps but really you just need to know what you like eating for three days straight.
