My uncle's old radio ad made me question the whole 'golden age' thing
Found a 1954 radio spot my uncle voiced for a local furniture store in Akron, Ohio. He laughed and said the ad promised 'easy credit, no money down' but the store went bust 2 years later. That got me thinking about how we romanticize the 50s as this stable decade when a lot of people were drowning in debt or hiding it. Do we look back at the ads as honest snapshots or just polished lies? Anyone else have family stories that don't match the glossy magazine version?
