My neighbor's 1952 photo collection changed how I see the era

Mrs. Patterson down the street showed me her dad's photo album from 1952. There was a shot of a crowded diner in Detroit with everyone laughing and eating burgers for 35 cents. It made me realize the 50s had this real community vibe you don't see much anymore. Anyone else come across photos that made you rethink the decade?

idk, it's funny you mention the diner shot because what really struck me about old photos like that is how different the lighting is. Like, everything is so much warmer and grainier, and people are looking at the camera like it's this big event. That 35 cent burger thing makes me think about how much of that community vibe was tied to not having a ton of distractions. No phones, no constant news cycle, just hanging out and talking to the person next to you. Maybe it's just me but those old photos feel like a different world where people were more used to being bored together. That kind of closeness might have come from having nothing better to do.

Is "being bored together" just a fancy way of saying we've forgotten how to sit still for five seconds without grabbing our phones? My grandpa used to say boredom builds character, but I think it mostly just built a lot of really weird conversations at 2 AM. Bet those diner booths heard crazier stuff than any group chat ever will.
