Grandpa's diner story about his 1949 Ford still bugs me

He told me last Thanksgiving at his kitchen table that he traded his '49 Ford coupe for a '57 Chevy because "the Ford didn't have enough chrome." That car would be worth like 40 grand today if he kept it. Do you guys ever get stuck on old decisions your family made about cars back then?

My grandpa sold a 1932 Ford coupe in 1965 for 200 bucks because he needed a truck for work. That car would be pushing six figures at auction now. I still hear about it every time we drive past a car show.

A fresh set of wheels back then sure cost a lot more than 200 bucks in the long run. My uncle did something similar with a 1965 Mustang in 1972, traded it for a riding lawnmower. Now every time he sees a Mustang at a car show he mumbles about how his old one mows the lawn at a county park. Grandpa probably thinks about that coupe every time he sees a shiny truck in the driveway.
