Grandpa Lou told me in 1999 that you could date any old photo by the shoe styles alone, and I laughed at him for it
He ran a camera shop in Dayton for 31 years and swore he could pin down any picture to within 3 years just by looking at the shoes. I inherited a shoebox of his photos from the 1950s and tried dating a bunch of them by the cars instead, since cars are the thing everyone says to look at. Half of them were family cars that were 5 or 6 years old by the time the photo got taken, so I was way off on most of them. I pulled out the shoes and wouldn't you know it, loafers, pointed toes, chunky heels, it lined up almost perfectly with the dates he'd written on the back. Anybody else here use clothing or hair to date their family photos instead of trying to read the license plates?
