Found my grandpa's old train ticket from 1955 inside a book

I was clearing out my folks' attic last weekend and found a ticket stub from the Santa Fe Super Chief dated March 1955 tucked in a old copy of The Catcher in the Rye. The ticket was $48 round trip from Chicago to Los Angeles, which I looked up and that's like $500 today. Has anyone else dug up old travel stuff from family that gives you a peek into what a trip really cost back then?

Remember when a nickel could get you a burger and a movie ticket? Now it barely covers the look on my face when I see gas prices.
