Burned my hand at a 1950s diner in Cleveland last month

Went to St. Clair Dinner for the retro vibe. Grabbed a ceramic coffee cup without checking. Thing was like holding a hot coal. Now I always grab the mug by the handle first, not the body. Anybody else learn a dumb lesson from an old school diner?

Honestly, the real danger at those old diners isn't the coffee, it's the ceramic mugs retaining heat way longer than modern ones. Ngl, I burnt my lip on a rim that still felt cool to touch but was secretly nuclear. Tbh, those vintage vibes come with actual hazards nobody warns you about.

My buddy Dave took a sip from one of those thick diner mugs last week and the coffee was still hot enough to make his eyes water ten minutes later. He said the mug felt warm but not scorching, how does that even work?
