Appreciation post: That old lady at the estate sale who schooled me on vintage linens

I was digging through a box of old sheets at an estate sale in Portland last spring, and an older woman tapped me on the shoulder and said those 1950s percale sheets were worth more than the fancy new ones at Macy's. She explained how the cotton was actually longer staple back then and they just felt cooler to sleep on because of the weave. Anybody else run into someone at these sales who just knows the history behind everyday stuff like that?

Oh man, so did she drop any tips on how to actually tell the difference between the good vintage stuff and the junk?

Yeah those old textile ladies are walking encyclopedias, met one who could date any bedsheet by the hem stitching.
